This was an interesting read that kept me intrigued written by author Jason Flanigan and published by Dreamy Worlds Publications. This book is marketed toward young adults ages 11 and up. I plan to share this book with my 13 year old nephew whom I think will enjoy this story. I'm 35 and could hardly put it down as I really like to read fantasy involving magic and such.This story is about a boy named James who comes into his magic as he turns 11. Along with his magic he inherits a bad luck curse and must learn to live with the shenanigans this entails. He lives with his grandmother Louise and has two best friends, Tim and Beth. When his aunt Victoria dies, who was also afflicted by the family curse, he inherits Victoria's parakeet named Amy who he must keep away from meat or things could go awry. There also happens to be something crazy going on that has taken over everyone's mind at school. I like the twist and turns that this story takes you on. I feel it's a wonderful adventure that would definitely keep a young adults attention. I'm delighted that this is called book 1 so I'm to assume there will be more to follow. I would definitely like to keep up with this series.

My son was super excited to read this book from the cover alone! He loves fantasy style books so I wanted to get this for him. He instantly took to a corner and started reading The Bad Luck Curse by Jason Flanigan. It took him about a weekend to devour the book. He loved it. He told me it was about wizards and about a boy. I couldn't get much more out of him but he said it was a great book. He is actually drawing pictures to go along with the book and even said he wants to create a graphic novel with the characters. I told him I thought this was the first book in a series and he has asked me for the second book. He wants me to read it next and I plan on doing just that later this month.
Any book that keeps his interest so he isn't playing videogames, is a winning book in my eyes. He told me that book was fun to read and that it wasn't boring at any point. He even told me that he wants to read it again.

I started reading it myself when and quickly realized it is beyond my son's reading level. I have set it aside for future reading. Overall, this is a really great teen fantasy read. The teen will enjoy reading about James as he finds out who he is and how to defeat his bad luck. This book is funny, serious, mysterious and filled with magic. A really cute teen read. I will keep it until he is a little bit older and can enjoy it like I did.

Needs more background on secondary realm creatures and seriously a catchier name. Dialogue is robotic, no one talks like that. I thought character development was okay. I liked the three friends

I really liked this book. It kept my attention and I can't wait for the next one to find out what happens.
The Bad Luck Curse by Jason Flanigan is a wonderful children's fantasy adventure and my kid loves it. I purchased this book as a Birthday present for my kid and I thought of having a go at it before presenting it. The language is simple and every one can easily understand it. The author has clearly described each and every incident in a mind gripping style and the use of dialogues time to time makes it more colorful and interesting. Jason's pure imagination is clearly transferred on to reader's mind while reading this book and I highly enjoyed it.
Getting on to the story, the plot flows through a fantasy adventure with just a small amount of humor about a young wizard who turns eleven and his magical power finally awakens and he finds out he has a family curse which brings bad luck. The main conflict of the story runs on the incident where James have to stop a powerful secondary realm creature who is hiding in the school. The characters are built up in a very supporting way to the main plot adding much taste in to the tale. Amy is one of the main characters and she is a wereparakeet he inherits. She has mentored and guided different members of the family for generations to help them deal with the curse. There is only one rule Like all wereanimals, it's very important for her to remain a vegetarian, especially when there is a full moon. Unlike other fantasy tales based on magical background which gets very difficult to follow through this tales made me feel the depth of it. I could not put this down. My kid loves this tale and I recommend this for all the children.
